COP on the Hill: Stories from the weeks of December 12 and 19, 2025

Stories from the weeks of December 12 and 19, 2025

Karma:  moving from one presentation to the next, I happened to have a long (7 minute) chat and average (2 minute) chat with 2 House Members.

Why?:   Riding up the subway escalator near the Capitol, I heard a voice ask “why? ‘….she was a staffer and we ended up having an 8-minute, full presentation on the sidewalk outside Cannon..The $70 COP message jacket pays dividends every day.

Cowgirls need a hat:  The speaker started her presentation telling us how there were plenty of cowgirls in her Plains State.  After 30 seconds I lifted my 10-gallon cowboy off the table, offering to let her wear it…the room erupted in laughter.

Celebrate One Day, then back to work:   As I am sure you read, President Trump ordered his people to move cannabis to a schedule 3, legal substance.  This will generate movement in the States which have been recalcitrant to touch the issue…now back to work to move it to a descheduled drug/10th Amendment controlled policy.  BTW, this is the biggest, positive change in drug policy since the DEA formed in 1971.

Cheerful News:  my new, right knee is back to 97%    Thus, I have decided to continue our COP tasks in the Congress/Washington DC for 2026…I am back to 9,000 steps (my average day on the Hill is about 6,000).

* Consider being a member of COP at $40 or more per year. All contributions are tax-deductible. 40 dollars buys all the copy paper COP uses in one year. Law Enforcement’s voice in opposition to current policy is vital on the Hill to achieve a repeal of federal drug prohibition. COP provides that voice. www.citizensopposingprohibition.org ( to donate by Internet)
