COP on the Hill: Stories from the weeks of July 2 and 9, 2025

This Week:

02  meetings…  Grover Norquist, right of center

486 chats with other elected officials, state reps, senators, VIPs,   … 04 this week. Nice chats with the former Speaker of the Missouri House and 3 MO Senators.

Presentation at Grovers:  (notes at the bottom)

As I do about twice a year, I made my 4-minute presentation to the conservative leaders…this time there was a White House staffer in attendance, along with communication reps from the House and Senate.. Bonus – 6 currently serving legislators from Missouri.

I focused on the rapid changes in the federal and state laws to allow the safe, ‘guided medical journey’ medical use of drugs like, LSD, Ecstasy, magic mushrooms (psilocybin) and others.  Nearly a dozen House Members, half R, half D, are pushing for research and legalization.

It is refreshing that both parties are coming together on this.

Active Again:  happy to report that my knee is again well-enough for a 4 hour day at work.

* Consider being a member of COP at $40 or more per year. All contributions are tax-deductible. 40 dollars buys all the copy paper COP uses in one year. Law Enforcement’s voice in opposition to current policy is vital on the Hill to achieve a repeal of federal drug prohibition. COP provides that voice. www.citizensopposingprohibition.org ( to donate by Internet)

Grover Presentation:

Marijuana and Magic Mushrooms:  Cheerful News

Magic Mushrooms: First and most importantly: Help for our Veterans

Thanks in large part to the efforts of Congressmen in the PATH congressional caucus: Psychedelics Advancing Therapies – progress is happening. Among the Republican Members are Crenshaw and Luttrell from Texas, Bergman of MI (who was a 3 star Marine General), Zinke of Montana and a like # of Democrats.  X House Member Doug Collins now Secretary of Veteran affairs is also a big booster.

Basics: Vet has PTSD.  Seeks help.  Doctor decides on the best psychedelic (LSD, Ecstasy, Magic Mushrooms, etc). Patient has a ‘guided medical journey’ aided by two staffers who stay the entire 3-5 hours, keep the conversation going and guided. The drugs rewire the brain BACK to its condition before combat.  Vets need usually between 1 and 3 journeys to recover and be cured.   The Veterans Administration has been funded to run research in this area.  The anecdotal success stories number in the 1000s….20 vets are still committing suicide  from the PTSD every day…

Two states have legalized the medical use of these drugs: Colorado and Oregon. Many more, red and blue, are advancing in the direction of Legal, Medical Use.  urge you to support these efforts

I confirmed that Switzerland and others are exploring the use of magic mushrooms, etc to CURE heroin addiction. Another exciting area of research.

Marijuana:

With the addition of Ohio and Missouri and Virginia, 24 States and well over half the USA population can possess small amounts legally.  When citizens are allowed to vote on the issue, it almost always is approved.

All states are seeing a serious reduction in police searches of cars.  Colorado did research and found searches were down over 60%  40 states have legal medical marijuana, now including Texas.

Texas is special..they have some 8,000 state licensed stores selling a high THC (marijuana) hemp…(McDonald’s has 1200 stores in Texas)…customers can use credit cards and pay the 9% state sales tax.  Gross sales are close to 2 billion.

Governor Greg Abbott VETOED a bill to make this hemp product (essentially marjuana) illegal, despite massive pressure from the police and prosecutors.  Arrests for the Simple Possession of Marijuana are down 90% per my sources.  He has called for a special session of the legislature to “regulate” this new industry.

Last, Chinese gangs are active in Oklahoma and Maine.  They grow weed for the states which still have this prohibition.Colorado is exporting large parts of their harvest to Mexico to supply the demand for high quality weed    Questions or Concerns?
