Take Action

“Conviction without action is Worthless” – Author unknown.

Take action by inviting Howard Wooldridge to speak to your organization, business or classroom! He is experienced in speaking on any aspect of current prohibition polices from its impact on public safety, to how it hurts our economy, to national security.

Take action by contacting your political, business and religious leaders. Tell them your philosophy and what changes should be made.

Local Congressional offices make appointments and they will give you 15-30 minutes of an aide’s time to express yourself. This face to face meeting is the gold standard of impact on the Member. Certainly attend all Town Hall Meetings. Or write an email or letter. Below is a sample to guide you. Feel free to make any modifications.

GUIDELINES: To move federal drug policy, COPs urges you to contact your three Members of Congress via email every six months. Please do this no matter how strongly your Member has told you that they are a strong believer in drug prohibition. Because Members ‘trade’ votes, they seek allies for their bills, they want to help their party stay in the majority or regain the majority – this translates into a Member altering a vote they may not fully agree with. So write!

NOTE: Bear in mind that COPs works towards the end of federal prohibition, NOT the legalization of any particular drug. Your letter should reflect that. Any letter which mentions legalize or decriminalize immediately requires your Member to listen to the ‘he said, she said’ of how any drug is harmful or not so much. Most Members naturally shy away from this discussion.

The beauty of asking that States be allowed to set policy instead of the federal government is the avoidance of the above scenario. Members on a regular basis have said, ‘This office has no position on policy X. We believe this is a matter & policy best left to the various States to decide what action to take.’

The Honorable Congressman Smith

Washington, DC

Dear Congressman Smith,

I am a (mom, dad, -your occupation, etc), a concerned citizen and I vote in every federal election. Since 1971 I have seen the utter failure of Modern Prohibition. I am unable to see one benefit, one positive outcome, anything good that it accomplishes. Do you know any? If so, please state them.

Thus, I urge you to support allowing our State to set drug policy, starting with marijuana. I have had many police officers say that their profession spends huge amounts of time chasing the non-violent pot smoker which means less time for the deadly DUI, child molesters and other public safety threats. Allow our state to make its own decision, just as we make our own decision on gambling and alcohol policy.

I await your positive response.

Sincerely,

[YOUR NAME]
